Computer Fraud and Abuse Act

The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) is a statute that forbids, among other things, "intentionally access[ing] a protected computer, without authorization" when the access "recklessly causes damage" or "causes damage and loss." The CFAA provides a civil remedy in compensatory damages and for injunctive relief, for "[a]ny person who suffers damage or loss by reason of a violation of this" criminal statute. CASTAYBERT PLLC's principal attorney has litigated several matters in which the CFAA has been invoked in seeking civil damages or injunctive relief.
